Dr. Tias Muurlink BVSc (HONS) FANZCVS (Equine Surgery)

Registered Specialist in Equine Surgery

  • Tias graduated in 1988 and has spent most of his career in Equine practice. After several jobs which included time in North Queensland, Victoria and Oakey, he started West Warwick Vet Clinic with Dr. Cathy Marlton. This practice grew to be the predominant practice in the area until the time it was sold it in 2004.

    Tias then worked a season for the Scone Vet Hospital before heading to the University of Melbourne Veterinary Hospital. Here he consolidated his skills and qualified by examination as a specialist in Equine Surgery. He continued at the University of Melbourne Veterinary Hospital as the Head the Equine Centre, ultimately responsible for the care of all horses going through this busy teaching hospital. During this period he also spent time in North America, the UK and Singapore gaining experience.

    Tias then returned to Queensland and spent a year at the University of Queensland Veterinary Hospital (Gatton) as a specialist equine surgeon.

    In 2013, Tias decided to leave University life and started back in private practice based in Warwick, founding Warwick Equine Vets soon after. As well as his private practice work, he has been heavily involved with the ANZCVS. He has recently stepped down from his roles on the Board of Examiners and governing Council of the ANZCVS and as chief examiner. He is also regularly lectures on various equine topics mostly in fields related to Equine Surgery.

    Tias also enjoys supporting the equine veterinary community and regularly works with and advises veterinary colleagues both locally and internationally and provides consultancy surgery help to several practices around Australia.

    Tias has wide ranging interests in the fields of equine practice. Special interests include surgery and lameness and he also enjoys the challenges of stud work during the breeding season.

    As Sunshine Coast Equine Hospital comes on stream, Tias will oversee the veterinary team and looks forward to providing consultancy services from this location.es here

Lynette Jackson

Practice Manager

  • A role with Scone Equine Veterinary Hospital quickly developed Lynette’s passion for equine veterinary nursing, making the step to become a qualified veterinary nurse.

    Moving to the University of Melbourne Equine Centre in 2006 she continued to develop her skills as a nurse and the development of her leadership and management skills, becoming the Head Nurse and then Team Leader of the Equine Lameness and Imaging Centre.

    Lynette is thrilled to be part of the Sunshine Coast project to establish a hospital that provides high-quality veterinary care to horses. She is enthusiastic about using her knowledge to build a practice from the ground up and contribute to the creation of something truly innovative.

Dr. Brianna Clark | BVSc (Hons), MANZCVS (Medicine of Horses), Diplomate ACVIM (Large Animal Internal Medicine) DVClinSc

Registered Specialist in Equine Internal Medicine

  • Following several years in practice, she undertook an internship at Goulburn Valley Equine Hospital in Victoria, remaining on as a Medicine Fellow for an additional season.  

    Driven by a passion for all aspects of equine internal medicine, Brianna went on to complete an Equine Internal Medicine Residency at the University of Queensland, obtaining her Diplomate status with the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (Large Animal) in 2023. She also holds Membership of the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists in Medicine of Horses. Most recently, she has worked at Scone Equine Hospital, one of Australia’s busiest equine referral centres, gaining extensive experience in complex medical case management and critical care. Brianna enjoys all aspects of internal medicine but has a particular interest in endocrinology, cardiology and poor performance.  

    Brianna’s research as part of her professional doctorate focused on the epidemiological and genetic factors contributing to insulin dysregulation and equine metabolic syndrome in ponies.  

    Outside of work, Brianna enjoys time outdoors with her young family - hiking, beach time, and exploring new places. She also loves baking and has recently taken up the art of sourdough bread making. 

Dr. Bridget  Nottle | BVSc, DACVS - LA

Registered Specialist in Equine Surgery

  • Bridget completed her Bachelor of Veterinary Science with Honours at The University of Queensland before undertaking a surgical residency at the University of California, Davis—one of the world’s leading veterinary teaching hospitals. She became a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons in 2021. 

    Before joining the Sunshine Coast Equine Hospital, Bridget has spent the last 10 years working in some of the best hospitals in the United States, most recently at Colorado State University where she was the service chief of the equine emergency surgery and critical care department. Her clinical experience covers all aspects of equine surgery, from complex colic, orthopedic and airway procedures to wound management and post-operative care. She has also contributed to several research publications advancing understanding of equine emergency medicine and surgical techniques.  

    Bridget is passionate about providing high-quality, compassionate care to horses and their owners. She particularly enjoys managing critical care cases and supporting horses through recovery from major surgery. 

    Outside of work, Bridget has a lifelong involvement in endurance riding, having represented Australia in international competition. She enjoys travel, outdoor adventures, and spending time with her very special saluki dogs. 

Dr. Mikarla Poole BVetBiol/BVSc

Associate Veterinarian

  • She began her career gaining valuable experience at a mixed practice in Tamworth, where she developed a variety of skills across both large and small animals, while always maintaining a strong interest for equine work.  

    Mikarla then relocated to Queensland to expand her clinical experience and has spent time working as a small animal emergency and critical care veterinarian. During this time, she realised her true passion lay in equine practice, which led her to join the team at Sunshine Coast Equine Hospital.  

    Mikarla has a keen interest in all aspects of equine care with a particular focus on lameness and sports medicine.  She looks forward to working alongside the experienced team of equine veterinarians and contributing to a collaborative service dedicated to delivering a high standard of care to all equine patients.  

    Outside of work Mikarla enjoys riding, competing in eventing, as well as pilates, travel and spending time with her partner making the most of everything the Sunshine Coast lifestyle. 

Gemma Logan

Veterinary Nurse 

  • She brings over five years of experience from a mixed practice and specialist equine clinic in Far North Queensland, where she developed a keen interest in equine health and patient care, along with a particular interest in orthopaedics.  

    After taking time to travel and live in Canada for two years, Gemma returned to Australia to further build her career in the veterinary industry. She is now proud to be part of the team at Sunshine Coast Equine Hospital, where she is dedicated to recovering high quality, compassionate care to every patient.  

    Outside of work, Gemma enjoys spending time at the beach, travelling and camping. 

Kara Turner

Veterinary Nurse 

  • Following graduation, Kara completed an internship in small animal speciality practice, gaining valuable experience in high-level care before moving into a mixed veterinary practice. There, Kara played a key role in supporting and running the equine unit, further refining her hands on skills and passion for equine nursing. 

    Driven by a lifelong love of horses, Kara decided to return to her home base, the Sunshine Coast to pursue a dedicated career in equine nursing. Her passion for the equine industry began at a young age and continues both professionally and personally, as she is a proud owner of two Thoroughbreds.  

    With a strong work ethic, broad clinical background, and genuine dedication to equine welfare. Kara brings enthusiasm and experience to every aspect of equine care.  

    Outside of work, you can find Kara making new adventures on her young Thoroughbreds. 

Diego Nogueira

Veterinary Nurse 

  • During his studies, Diego gained hands-on experience working in a large animal veterinary hospital, where he was actively involved in both routine care and surgical procedures, predominantly with horses. 

    His connection with horses began early in life through rehabilitation work alongside his father, helping horses affected by neglect and poor handling. This experience shaped his approach to equine care, with a strong emphasis on behaviour, pain recognition, recovery, and retraining. 

    He later worked in aquaculture genetics for a multinational company, where he developed a high level of professionalism, adaptability, and experience in performance-driven environments. 

    Diego’s journey to Australia began through rugby, when he had the opportunity to represent Brazil in a match against South Africa held in Australia. This experience inspired him to pursue an international career and ultimately led him to relocate. 

    He is currently working as a veterinary nurse at Sunshine Coast Equine Hospital, where he is focused on expanding his clinical skills, developing technical language, and progressing through the veterinary registration process. Diego is committed to continuous learning, animal welfare, and excellence in equine veterinary care. 

Jun Shin

Veterinary Nurse 

  • Through his background as a track rider and riding coach, Jun has developed extensive hands-on experience working with horses and a strong understanding of their care, handling, and performance. 

    After completing his studies in Veterinary Technology, Jun has built a solid clinical foundation and enjoys working closely with horses in a veterinary setting. His experience in both the equine industry and clinical environment allows him to bring a practical and compassionate approach to patient care. 

    Jun is excited to be part of the team and to contribute to the development of a hospital dedicated to providing high-quality veterinary care for horses. He looks forward to supporting both the veterinary team and clients while helping deliver the highest standard of care to equine patients.
